A cloudless sky greeted our team on April 27th, the date of our annual FIXUP Mid City 2019. We were out there by 5am unloading plants, setting up coffee and donuts, and prepping Acadian Blvd to be closed for a corridor revitalization project involving upwards of 65 volunteers and six different projects.
Mid City was ready. As the volunteers rolled in, we plied them with the coffee and donuts they would need to finish the fun – yet hard – work ahead of them. By the end of the day, our volunteers had:
With six major projects going on at the same time, we had a very productive morning. This volunteer energy is what Baton Rouge needs to continue to grow and flourish, because to have a thriving community, we must take pride and give back to the places we call home. At Mid City Redevelopment, we not only want to provide people opportunities to volunteer, we want to make them memorable and fulfilling.
If you weren’t able to join us for FIXUP, then hopefully you can join us for our next big project: ReactivateBR on July 20th. Mid City Redevelopment, the Walls Project, Mayor-President Broome, and Build Baton Rouge are combining resources to plan a large day of service along Plank Rd that will revitalize the community through urban gardening, mural paintings, trash pick-up, residential home repair and so much more. We expect upwards of 500 youth volunteers to join us on this day, but we're going to need even more help to pull this off.
