White Light Night has been a staple of Mid City for 16 years. I myself have served Mid City as the Executive Director of Mid City Redevelopment Alliance for 12 years and have seen the event progress into what it is today. With 73 businesses and sponsors, 2018 is the biggest year yet for White Light Night.

I enjoyed my time volunteering with Mid-city Redevelopment very much. Not only was the staff there very helpful, passionate and informed, they even had a backup plan for us when the weather did not cooperate! We planned to help paint the fence at the historic Magnolia Cemetery but, since it rained, we helped tidy the warehouse and beautify the outside of the building with a little gardening instead. We were able to do things at our own pace, which was nice. The staff was involved and talkative with us, too. I would recommend volunteering with Mid-city Redevelopment to anyone looking to learn more about Baton Rouge and the effort to improve the community.

My experience with Mid City Redevelopment reminded me to be thankful for those who love and respect their community and want to make it beautiful. I am grateful to have been offered the opportunity to volunteer and help in any way. The staff was great and although there was heavy lifting involved they were always there to offer a hand. I would no doubt about it sign up for another activity and ask my fellow Key Club members to do the same.

After receiving a companywide email from Melanie Hanks recruiting volunteers – I was on board.
