Justin Lemoine is a 2006 graduate of the Robert Reich School of Landscape Architecture at LSU. After a brief residence in Austin, Tx, Justin and his wife Lauren returned to Baton Rouge where he ultimately founded ELS Landscape Architecture Studio. As a landscape architect and business owner, he works on a wide variety of projects from residential landscapes, to public parks and public spaces, to commercial facility landscapes. In his free time, though, he does much, much more to ensure the continued growth of Mid City.
Justin was elected to the board of Mid City Merchants in 2016 where he now serves as board Vice-President. In December of 2016, Justin, along with a team of friends, co-founded the Mid City Makers Market, a monthly event that showcases local artist, makers, food, and drink vendors. The market has grown from just 12 artists in December 2016 to over 60 booths at each monthly event. As part of the events, the MMM team showcases local music and periodic public art installations.
If it wasn’t already clear just how committed Justin is to making a difference in our community, he has decided to tackle another major improvement project - public art in Mid City. As the chair of the Mid City Merchant’s Beautification committee, he is spearheading the implementation of the public art program with the first pieces of art expected in 2019!
Justin has been meeting with the Arts Council, the state Office of Cultural Development, MCRA and other organizations within the community to lead a community-informed planning process that will ultimately create Mid City’s first 5 Year Public Art Master Plan. To support these efforts, he worked with MCRA to apply for a $10,000 public art grant and is on the lookout for additional funding sources to match the local dollars business owners have raised through over 20 years of White Light Night and Hot Art Cool Nights events.
We are so excited to see what Justin and all of our public art partners are able to accomplish in the years to come. Want to get involved? Email us at email@example.com
